Hanover is a tiny village next to the N1, halfway between Johannesburg and Cape Town, and it is here where you will find the famous Coffee Baa-ar. This Coffee Baa-ar is part of the Hanover Lodge, and is the only restaurant in South Africa that serves delicious, fluffy sheepuccinos, merinos and dorpers. All are the names of drinks inspired by the main activity in the area: sheep farming. The Coffee Baa-ar also offers home-cooked pub meals and are fully licensed.

The Hanover Lodge is the only Art Deco style building in the town, where the usual Karoo architecture dominates. Hanover is quite an interesting town, having been the place where the famous writer Olive Schreiner lived (you can still visit Olive Schreiner house) and where Zwelenzima Vavi was born (he is the General Secretary of the powerful Cosatu-movement). History is still very much evident, as you will see in the donkey carts, the old water channels, and the imposing Duth Reformed Church dating from 1907.

The Hanover Lodge boasts a display of various interesting relics from the past. Many photographs, telling the story of the surrounding area; books with stories about the Karoo; as well as a collection of stencils that were used to identify wool bales – all telling the story of a unique region of South Africa.

The Hanover Lodge offers comfortable bed and breakfast accommodation, and is an ideal overnight stop. Garden rooms and suites are offered, all en suite and equipped with fan, mosquito net, TV, tea/coffee-making facilities, heaters and hot water bottles (it can actually become very cold in Hanover). There is secure parking, as well as a swimming pool and braai facilities.

Mazambala Island Lodge in the Caprivi is excellent accommodation along the Kwando River Namibia.  This lodge borders the Caprivi National Park in Namibia.
Sossusvlei Desert Camp is only 54 km from Sesriem at the entrance to the Sossusvlei Park.  Desert Camp offers luxury self-catering (self contained) accommodation at Sossusvlei in Namibia.
